Special Olympics Branded Apparel

All local programs and teams in Kansas are part of the larger Special Olympics Kansas organization and therefore must meet branding requirements for apparel. These requirements come from Special Olympics and are consistent across all state programs in order to have a consistent brand message and for friends, family, spectators, sponsors and volunteers to identify SO programs. For questions not answered on this page about apparel requirements for Kansas contact Heather Waters at watersh@ksso.org

Guidelines for Front of Team Apparel

  • When creating shirts for clubs or teams a lock-up can be used that gives primacy to the actual team name. This acknowledges the importance of local teams within Special Olympics Kansas and facilitates the creation of distinct team identities for games within Kansas.
  • The name of the team has primacy on the shirt ensuring team or club recognition between competing teams. The choice of typeface and design of this element is at the discretion of the team or club (see number one on the graphic).
  • The name of the state program – Special Olympics Kansas – is set in all capitals Ubuntu Bold typeface as illustrated by number 2 on the graphic. See the next bullet point for color information.
  • The Special Olympics symbol (often called the globe) is centered beneath the name Special Olympics Kansas (see number 3 on the graphic). This symbol along with the name of the state program may only be used in colors chosen by Special Olympics. Those colors are red, black, grey or white.
    • Exact color guidelines for designers/printers
      • SO Red: 186c Pantone, 0/100/100/0 CMYK, 255/0/0 RGB, #FF0000 Hex
      • SO Black: Black Pantone, 0/0/0/100 CMYK, 0/0/0 RGB, #000000 Hex
      • SO Dark Grey: 418c Pantone, 0/0/15/75 CMYK, 99/99/89 RGB #636359 Hex
      • SO Mid Grey: 415c Pantone, 0/0/8/50 CMYK, 148/149/141 RGB, #94958D Hex
      • SO Light Grey: 413c Pantone, 0/0/0/30 CMYK, 188/190/192 RGB, #BCBEC0 Hex
      • SO White: – Pantone, 0/0/0/0 CMYK, 000/000/000 RGB, #FFFFFF Hex
  • The color, typeset or motif created for each team reflects the identity of the club or team while clearly identifying the club or team as being within the Special Olympics Kansas accredited program. For example, if your team colors are yellow and green you can have any color shirt with yellow and green in your team logo, but the SOKS name and SO symbol must be red, black, grey or white and contrast with the shirt color so that it is clearly visible.

Guidelines for Back of Team Apparel

  • The back of team apparel may be customized by the individual team or club. Athlete names and/or numbers may be used on uniforms.
  • Absolutely no sponsors may appear on competition apparel. Event t-shirts such as fundraiser events may contain sponsor logos, but competition apparel may not have any sponsors listed by name or logo.

Guidelines for Sleeves of Team Apparel

  • The sleeves of team apparel may be customized by the individual team or club. This may include a statement such as “Inclusion Revolution” or a team slogan.
  • Absolutely no sponsors may appear on competition apparel. Event t-shirts such as fundraiser events may contain sponsor logos, but competition apparel may not have any sponsors listed by name or logo.

Guidelines for Shorts/Pants of Team Apparel

  • The shorts/pants of team apparel may be customized by the individual team or club, but it must include the Special Olympics Kansas name and SO symbol below the name just like on the front of the shirt.
  • The team or club name and/or logo may also appear on these items and should have primacy on the item.

Unified Champion School® Program Apparel

The branding requirements for Unified Champion Schools® (UCS) apparel is the same for team apparel with one exception – the back of the shirt must contain the UCS logo at the top of the shirt. The athletes name may still appear on the back as well as a uniform number. The UCS logo and shirt example are below.
